Scott Neely Draws ED, EDD N EDDY!

Scott Neely Draws ED, EDD N EDDY! from Scott Neely on Vimeo.

Here's a drawing I did of all three of the Eds from the Cartoon Network cartoon Ed, Edd n Eddy! The hard thing about doing this kind of group shot is trying to make each Ed unique with their facial expressions and staying within their distinct personalities. Penciled with a 5H, then tightened up with an H lead, and then inked with the Pitt Brush Marker on cheap letterhead copy paper.

FREE COMIC BOOK DAY Appearance This Saturday!

This Saturday I will be at Captain Blue Hen Comics in Newark, Delaware once again for Free Comic Book Day doing quick sketches for people and will be among 5 or 6 other artists who will be drawing too. Usually a fun event and it's got a huge crowd every year. This will be my last year for doing it and I'll be taking a break from it since I've done it every year since 2004.

Here's a drawing I did of my favorite Ed from Ed, Edd n Eddy! Ed's a bit confused in this drawing since he can't find his jawbreakers that he hid in his room. Penciled with a 5H, then tightened up with an H lead, and then inked with the Pitt Brush Marker on cheap letterhead copy paper.

PHINEAS AND FERB - Early Warm Up Sketches!

After I finished my work on Shrek 4 back on February 1st. I got an offer to work on some stuff for Phineas and Ferb, which is a Disney show and it's pretty popular from the response I got about it on FaceBook. I didn't know too much about the show but downloaded some episodes of it and did some sketches of the characters to see how I would break them down into shapes and basically see how they were constructed. I usually do this before I get any official reference such as turnarounds, attitudes or expressions just to see how I would go about drawing them. It help to sit and study the show as well and to get the vibe of the energy and what kind of personalities the characters have. Here are 4 sketches I did...just drawn on cheap paper and burned out kinda quick.

Testing out my new Flip Slide HD camera and decided to draw Scooby since that is what I do professionally. Still playing with the lighting and such so it will be light on my initial sketching and it gets darker. Penciled with a 5H pencil for the initial breakdown then I tighten it up with an H pencil and then inked with a Pitt Brush Marker. I usually take longer to ink so I burned this out for the sake of a video. This is also in real time and not speeded up.

Scooby Artist Scott Neely Drawing Scooby - Sketch #1

This is the first one I shot with my new Flip Slide HD camera. Did a great job recording it! This like the other video I posted is in real time so young artists can see the process and how I go about drawing. Penciled with a 5H pencil for the initial breakdown then I tighten it up with an H pencil and then inked with a Pitt Brush Marker. I took the audio track off of it as well since besides my pencil noises that you would hear, I also had an Opie and Anthony show I was listening to at the time and that might be offensive to some so I removed it.

Been A Looooonnnnnggggg Time....

To my faithful ones who look to new postings on my blog I apologize. The last 6 months were busy and I'm now back on track to posting on a regular basis again. It's feast or famine when you are a freelancer so when the work is there, you take it. As to where I've been (I last posted in November for my 10th Anniversary with Scooby), I've been involved with a bunch of cool jobs that I will now start to post for you to see.

I've worked on licensing art for Shrek Forever After (from August '09 to Feb '10); worked on two calendars for a drug company featuring some new characters I created; did a few comic book stories for Scooby, created and drawn a 5-page story for a charity book starring a cute character I created on the side; did some licensing work for a Disney show called Phineas and Ferb; and also recently did a new art audition for American Greetings to see if I'll be approved to draw the new version of Strawberry Shortcake! She's changed styles since I last drew her...

Shrek 4 took up most of my life though in that time as there were changes galore between the script and the final version of the movie and a lot of tweaks that had to be made to the art. It was a long six months. In my free time, I did sketches for myself and will post them here as well!

I also recently bought a Flip Slide HD camera and have shot some video of me drawing some of the characters that I'm know for drawing. If you're a friend on FaceBook you might have seen these posted there recently. I'll be posting them here as well now too.

Also, in the big news, is that I FINALLY got my main website (scottneely.com) almost completely up and running with all new stuff! I'm also adding a online store as well and that should be up soon!

Stay Tooned!
